Join us for a comprehensive 24-Hour Basic Mediation Training that covers the basic theory and skills of mediation in a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Participants will be introduced to the theoretical grounding underlying effective conflict interventions as well as the practical skills and techniques necessary to assist parties in conflict. Participants will learn to de-escalate negative and unproductive conflict interactions while assisting both parties and their lawyers to engage in productive dialogue, interest-based negotiation and effective decision-making.
This training will address the role of law and lawyers in mediation and will prepare participants to mediate in private, court-referred and community contexts.
This training is appropriate and applicable for professionals of all disciplines, and has been taken by numerous judges throughout New York State, as well as lawyers, therapists, educators, clergy, human resources professionals and many others. We have had great response to the online format of this training, with recent past trainees highlighting our engaging and interactive approach, our top notch trainer and coaching team, and the dedicated technology assistance that we provide throughout the program.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be eligible to participate in Stalder Mediation’s advanced mediation trainings and continuing education programs.
*Note that final placement on any court roster is at the discretion of the local Administrative Judge and participation in a course that is approved does not guarantee placement on a local court roster. Pursuant to Part 146, court-based mediation rosters require both a combination of mediation training and experience mediating. Acceptance on court rosters depends on a court’s need for mediators at any given time and may include a court’s need for mediators with specific case-type training or experience and mediation experience.
What Participants Have Said About This Training:
“I loved this training. You covered so much in a short period of time and I really feel like I came away with a solid understanding of the mediation practice.”
“This is an amazing class for those who are seeking to become mediators as it teaches a very logical and effective methodology. However, anyone can benefit from taking this course because it teaches communication skills and how to interact with other people on a daily basis – in essence, how to become a better human being.”
“This mediation program challenged the preconceptions and intellect of everyone who attended. Countless ‘ah ha’ moments were witnessed as students learned about themselves, as much as the ‘process’ of mediation. My tuition, travel and hotel costs were only a fraction of the value I received.”
“Sequoia is an excellent teacher and his approach is practical, grounded and human.”
“I have mediated over 500 cases but signed up for this training to brush up on skills. I was hesitant to sign up given my experience, as I wasn’t sure how much I would get out of it. It was wonderful. I am so grateful to Sequoia for his expertise and terrific skills as a trainer and mediator. It was worth every single penny and much more.”
“This was a fantastic four days. Regardless of the type of mediation you are interested in or the venue in which you intend to practice, this training is an excellent starting point. It brings education, insight and perspective along with technical skills, techniques and materials. Above all else, you will walk out a far better communicator than you were when you walked in.” – Jillian M.
“The basic mediation training is transformative for professionals who are deeply interested in finding a humanistic approach to conflict resolution. It’s a life buoy for attorneys who may be feeling disheartened by the practice and the traditional ‘system’.”
“This program was absolutely wonderful. It felt great to be a student again. The trainer and the coaches were so productive and effective and made me feel comfortable and supported throughout. I feel like I have gained a new skill for my law practice and for my every day life from just four days of learning. The training had a great balance of lectures, demonstrations, and role playing. I really enjoyed every part and was sad for it to end. I look forward to future training.” – Alexandra W.
“Sequoia is a masterful mediator and trainer. The four days of training was fun and went by quickly. Training via Zoom was efficient and seamless. The training was well organized and chock full of skills information and practical tips. I can’t wait to take advanced training!” – Jennifer F.
“Sequoia’s training and the techniques he teaches are a must for attorneys who are interested in mediation or just want to improve their interactions with colleagues, adversaries, administrative staff, and friends.” – Matt L.
“I would recommend this program to everyone. It was comprehensive and allowed me to actually engage in the mediation process instead of just hearing someone lecture about it. Overall a fantastic program.” – Carmelo L.
“I found the Zoom platform to be very user-friendly and really enjoyed being able to interact while in the comfort of my home.” – Alison K
“The basic mediation training by Sequoia was interesting and educational to experienced practitioners and non-lawyers alike. He has the ability to present complex topics in lecture format in an understandable manner and then further emphasize the skills by immediately transitioning to role-play. A great course.” – Larry W.
“Sequoia is a gifted and highly-engaging teacher with deep expertise and a practical perspective.” – Chris S.
“This was an intensive, informative training. I learned new skills to speak with parties and focus on interests, options and solutions.” – Charlene P.
